The beginning of the Russian Aeroshows was set one hundred years ago. In summer 1911, on Sophiyskiy place, close by Saint-Petersburg, Tsarskoselskaya Anniversary Exhibition was made for the first time. That Exhibition was done in memory of Empress Catherine I. Aeroshow was included in the programme, and airfield was built for the aeroshow specially.
In the aeroshow aircrafts «Gakkel» and «Bleriot» performed demonstration flights, aero mastership was shown by such Russian aviators as Efimov, Vacilev, Alechanovich, Lerche and Yankovskiy.
Some flights were military and in that case the purpose of aviators was to show detonation of a bridge, area search and bomb throwing. Also flights for distance were done.
In the late thirties of the 20th century airfield was named «Pushkin» and became base aerodrome of the 39th Fighter division, which consists of 154th, 155th и 156th fighter aviation regiments. In August 1941, 81th bomber aviation division delivered a thrust Berlin with airfield «Pushkin». The command pilot was M.V. Vodopyanov. Six bomber aircrafts TB-7 (Pe-8), Vodopyanov’s crew team and three new soviet bomber aircrafts Er-2 under A.G. Stepanov command participated in that flap.
Later, airfield «Pushkin» became one of the most significant military aerodromes in Leningrad’s Military District, and now airfield «Pushkin» is a joint civil and military aerodrome.
Since 1992, during twenty years, aviation celebrations, such as Air Fleet Celebration, exhibitions and forums have been taking place at the aerodrome «Pushkin».
